Mr. Charles W. Cobb, age 82, of New Franklin Church Road, Canon, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at his home.
Born June 26, 1937 in Lavonia, he was the son of the late Samuel Alvin and Arthur Mae (Watson) Cobb. After graduating from Lavonia High School, he served 8 years in the US Army Reserves. He served as the first park manager of Tugaloo State Park beginning with its construction in 1966, opening in 1967 until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Cobb was a member of New Franklin Christian Church where he served as deacon, as Sunday School Superintendent for 16 years, and he was also on the building and grounds committee. He was member of The American Legion Post 92 in Lavonia and was past president of The Lavonia Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: June Watts Cobb of the home; daughter: Mary June Cobb; son & daughter-in-law: Richard Charles & Janet Cobb; grandchildren: Jared Lee Cobb, Allie Grace Cobb, Grayson Charles Cobb. Mr. Cobb was the last surviving sibling of 12 children.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings: infant that died at birth called brother, Annie Lizzie, Dora Faye, James Freeman, Mary, Helen, Beatrice, George, Azalee, and Sam Jr.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2020, at New Franklin Christian Church with Minister Carl Beckham officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home.
