Mr. Charles Frederick Dempsey, 90, of Hartwell GA, before moving to Seneca SC in 2017, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018.

Born on March 6, 1927 in Clarkston GA, he was the eldest son of the late Fred Thomas Dempsey and Sarah Singleton Dempsey.

Mr. Dempsey was a second generation home builder in the Atlanta area.He enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes and was an active member of the Hartwell Tailspinners R/C Club.

He and his wife Jeanne McGhee Dempsey retired to Hartwell in October 2000.

He was a member of the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and former member of the Clarkston Baptist Church being ordained a deacon in 1963.

Mr. Dempsey was preceded in death by Jeanne, his wife of 58 years, and a brother, Thomas Lawrence Dempsey of Oxford MS.

He is survived by two sons, Charles Michael Dempsey and his wife Susan of Seneca SC and David Thomas Dempsey and his wife Sue of Dacula GA; five grandchildren: Chris Dempsey and his wife Sarah of Wilton CT, Danny Dempsey and his wife Mila of Columbus IN, Mark Dempsey and his wife Lara of Atlanta GA, Laura Dempsey West and her husband William of Seattle WA and Sara Dempsey of Richmond VA as well as four great-grandchildren: Isla Dempsey, Caleb Dempsey, Graham Dempsey and Evelyn West.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Steve Hammack and Dr. Donald Little officiating.Burial will follow on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain GA with Rev. Steve Hammack and Layman Bill Perrin officiating.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m. Monday morning.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oconee Memorial Hospital Foundation designated for GHS Hospice of the Foothills, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca SC 29672.
