Mr. Charles Rufus Heaton, Jr, 82, of Epps Bridge Road, Athens, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at his home.

Born on December 23, 1935 in Orlando, FL, he was the son of the late Charles Rufus Heaton, Sr. and Dollye Estes Heaton.Mr. Heaton was a graduate of the University of Georgia.He was retired from the State of Georgia Archives, Atlanta and a member of the Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters: Ann Temple of Hartwell and Bobbie Monk (Carl) of Athens and several nieces and nephews.Mr. Heaton was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. John Silver and Rev. Terry Meeks officiating.Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

A memorial service celebrating Charles' life will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Iris Place.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service.The family will be at the home of Ann Temple, 994 Liberty Hill Road, Hartwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sardis Baptist Church, 4359 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA 30643.
