Mr. Charles Ernest Milford, 90, of Liberty Hill Church Road, Hartwell, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at Wellstar MCG Health in Augusta, GA.
Born on December 7, 1932 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the George Washington Milford and Ethel Powell Milford. Mr. Milford was a man of many special gifts and talents, with the most commendable being his selfless nature and his desire to serve. In addition to serving his country as a machinist on the USS Damato destroyer (DDE 871), Charles also served his local community through a multitude of ways. He was a former owner of Milford Exxon and Grocery, a member of the Country Boy Plow Club, and a former member of the Granite City Squares and the Swinging Harts. His serving heart also led him to become a deacon and Sunday school teacher at his home church, Sardis Baptist Church. He was also the founder and First Captain of the Nancy Hart Volunteer Fire Department. Charles had a love and passion for farming, and through the years, he raised poultry, beef cattle, was a dairy farmer, and a row cropper.
Survivors include his three sons: Mike Milford and his wife Kathy, Mark Milford and his wife Becky, and Tim Milford and his wife Sandra all of Hartwell; one brother: Albert Lucius Milford of Roswell, GA; one sister: Polly Maret of Hartwell; nine grandchildren: Charlie Milford (Regent), Dawn Milford (Missy), Josh Milford, Stephanie Whitworth (Al), Ashley Smith (Charles), Kelsey Hill (Scottie), Megan Milford, Evan Milford, and Luke Christopher; sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a best friend: Harriet Zippili; and his beloved dog: Cricket. Mr. Milford is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Helen Herring Milford; and one sister: Betty Fleming.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Milford will be Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. Dan Vincent officiating. Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery with Military honors.
Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church, 4359 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA 30643.
