Mr. Charles Herman Moon, age 90, of Lavonia, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at his home.
Born May 23, 1921, in Elbert County, he was the son of the late Omer and Emma (Cornell) Moon. Mr. Moon attended Rabun Gap College in Dillard, Georgia in the late 1930's. It was there he met his future wife, Eva Nell Franks.He worked for the Soil Conservation Service of the US Department of Agriculture for thirty-three years. Mr. Moon also worked for the Franklin County Tax Assessor's Office as a board member. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Trustee, and music director. Mr. Moon taught the Builder's Sunday School Class for forty-five years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years: Eva Nell Franks Moon.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Louie & Diane Moon; Travis & Peggy Moon; and daughter and son-in-law, Vernelle & Jerry Stratton. Mr. Moon is survived by seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by caregivers: Mary Ellen Parham, Mary Hill, Annie Phillips, and Cindy Fulghum.
Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012 at thePleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Harvill and Rev. Ed Whitworth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 4:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home on Pleasant Hill Road.
