Charles Albert “Skeet” Stokes—beloved husband, father, and papa—went to be with the Lord on August 9, 2026, in Athens, Georgia, at age 82.
Skeet was born on October 8, 1943, in Savannah, Georgia, to Kimry and Martha Stokes. He is a graduate of the University of South Florida and Georgia State University. Affectionately known by his family as Papa Skeet, he lived life to the fullest with a true love for adventure and all things outdoors. He loved hiking, kayaking, fishing, and boating, especially with his beloved family by his side.
His love for his Savior was his top priority, and that love shined through him in the way he served others. He was always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor or friend. His favorite way to serve Jesus was through his counseling practice, Roswell Therapy Group, as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselor for over thirty-five years. He had retired earlier this year to his happy place, his family lake home on Lake Hartwell in Georgia, where he made many precious memories with his family over the last thirty years.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Christel Minotti Stokes; children, Kimberly S. Gemmiti (Gary), Charles K. Stokes (Dawn), Zachary N. Stokes (Ericah), and Krista M. Schauer (David); and grandchildren, Anna Wynn, Charles Asher, Adleigh Grace, Adam, Zachary, and Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Sonny Stokes, and young son Christopher Stokes.
His family is planning a celebration of life in his honor and will share the details once they are finalized.
The family would love to receive cards or letters sharing thoughts, stories, and memories of Skeet. They plan to display these at the celebration. Please mail to 292 Sugar Cane Dr., Hartwell, GA 30643, or email to dawnhinshaw1@gmail.com
The Strickland Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hartwell is assisting the family with all of the arrangements.
