Charles Howard Turner, 78, of Lavonia Georgia passed away Friday, January 6, 2017. Charles was born on January 22, 1938 in East Point Georgia. Charles served in the Navy aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Lofberg from 1957-58 and the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Oriskany-"The Mighty O", from 1956-1957. He worked for the East Point Police force from 1965-1985. He was a Mason and a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Charles Adell & Jewel Artell "Judy" Buran Turner of East Point Georgia, and leaves behind a loving wife, Margaret Helen Turner of Lavonia Georgia. Charles also leaves behind two sons and their families; Mr. Charles H. "Chuck" Turner, Jr. & Kimberly Williamon Turner of Fayetteville, Georgia and Mr. Richard A. "Chip" Turner & Mary Jo Weeks Turner of Fayetteville, Georgia. Grandchildren; Alan "Cole" Turner-19, Dakota Ariel Turner-11 and Shiloh Hongmei Turner-9.
The funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Jason Weeks officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or donations may be made to the Lavonia First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 47, Lavonia, GA 30553.
