Mr. Charles G. White Sr., of Ridge Road, Hartwell, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at his daughter's home.

Born May 25, 1921 at Parks Mill on the Oconee River outside of Buckhead, GA. Mr. White was the son of the late Fred Loring White, who was a farmer, dairyman, and rural mail carrier and Grace Edna Davis White.

Mr. White graduated Morgan County High School with honors in 1937 at 15 (president of my senior class).In 1944 while attending GA Tech, he was called up to fight in WWII in Europe with the 103 Infantry Div., 411 Regiment, 1 Battalion, B Company. Entered war as a 2nd Lt and battlefield promoted to 1st Lt as a company commander. After the Battle of the Bulge, he fought through Germany, Austria and into Italy as the war ended and awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.Mr. White returned to GA Tech and graduated Class of 1947.He owned and operated car dealerships in Abbeville and Greenwood, SC until 1966. Moving to California, he began a janitorial contracting business, which he operated until moving back to GA in 1993.In 1994, he and Sara returned to Sardis Baptist Church, in Sardis Community.Areas of service with Sardis Baptist Church were as Deacon and Sunday School teacher for 20 years.

Mr. White is survived by a son: Colonel Charles G. "Snip" White, Jr., USAF retired and his wife Gail of Hartwell, GA."Snip" has two children, District Attorney David Parks White and Paige Lindsey and was preceded by his first wife, the late Tori White. Gail has two daughters; Claire Arnold and Amy McNab.A son: John Marshall White, a clinical child psychologist and his wife Gloria of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They have two children, Lindsay and Jonathan. A daughter: Elizabeth Anne White Martinez, a registered nurse, and her husband Dave of Dacula, GA, and they have five children Stephen, Sareina, Zachery, Kristian, and Gabriel. A daughter: Ruth Edna White Thornton of Buford, GA and she has two children, Sara Elizabeth and Parks.And Doris Thornton, Ruthie's sister-in-law, who was Mr. White's loving caregiver.Mr. White is also survived by great-grandchildren: Gunner, Jake, Tori, AshLynn, KayLee, Abigail, Billy, J.C. and Andy.Mr. White was preceded in death by his wife: Sara Milly Parks, who he married on Sept 29, 1945 in Atlanta, GA, A brother, Fredrick Loring White who was married to Lenore and had three children, Rick, Kristen, and Brandon; a brother, Lincoln, who died at 2 years and a brother, Grayson D. White who was married to Frieda and had one child, Christie.

Funeral services will Monday, May 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. John Silver and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating.Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.The body will be placed in the church Monday at 12:00 noon, where the family will receive friends prior to the service. The family is at the home of "Snip" and Gail White, 3806 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell.Flowers optional, memorials may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church Family Life Center, 4359 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell GA 30643.
