Ms. Cheryl Dooley Haler, 67, of Johnny Street, Hartwell, GA, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016, at Hart Care Center.
Ms. Haler was born on September 11, 1948, in Royston, to parents Fred Richardson Dooley and Odell McDonald Dooley. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Education and later from Brenau with an MS in Education. She was a teacher who taught English and other subjects for over 40 years at Hart County Junior High School, Hart County Middle School, and Barnes Academy. Her passion for her students went well beyond just teaching subject matter. When students left her class, they knew they were loved. In addition, she loved football, especially Hart County Football, and was a member of the Hart County Touchdown Club Board for several years. She also loved her Georgia Bulldogs and many loved to follow her commentary during the games on Facebook.
Ms. Haler was an active Christian woman who was deeply involved in her church, Hartwell First United Methodist, for the majority of her life. She served both youth and adults in many capacities. She was a faithful member of the choir and also loved singing in a small group nicknamed "Jody and the Curb Girls." She was a member of the Charlie Green Sunday School Class and the Monday night Ladies Bible Study. She also served as a Sunday school teacher for the Wesley Live Wire class, as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School, as a Stephen minister, as a leader for Care group 6, and on various other church committees.
Ms. Haler is survived by two sons: James Haler and his wife Rebecca of Cornelius, OR, and Scott Haler of Hartwell, GA; three grandchildren: Brittany, Caleb, and Madison Haler; her dog Beau; and thousands of students and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Odell Dooley and her canine companion of 18 years, Addie.
A memorial service celebrating Cheryl's life will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 4:00 at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church officiated by Dr. R. Allen Stewart and Mrs. Lynne Glasco.A reception will follow in the church's Fellowship Hall.Honorary pallbearers are the ladies of the Monday Night Bible Study and teachers who were her colleagues.
