Obituary
Mrs. Christine Freda Powell White, age 90, of 1610 Elberton Road, Hartwell, GA, died Friday, December 18, 2009 at Westbury Medical Center, Jackson, GA.
Born February 12, 1919 in Hart County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Eugene Powell, Sr. and Myra Della Elrod Powell. She was a graduate of Hart County High School.She was a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, member of WMU, Baptist Training Union, RA's and GA's.She was a Homemaker, winner of numerous awards such as Homemaker of the Year and Mother of the Year in Hart County; noted for her cooking and seamstress abilities. She and her husband operated the historic Pure Oil Station, White's Service Station, in Hartwell for almost 50 years where she was Bookkeeper.She suffered Alzheimer's disease the last years of her life.
She is survived by:Sons, Dr. M. Christopher White and his wife Linda of Murfreesboro, NC, Dr. S. Dale White and his wife Babs of Martinez, GA, Van P. White of Orlando, FL;Daughter, Martha Jo White McMahon and her husband Dennis of Jackson, GA; Brothers, Dan Roy Powell of Bowman, GA,R. Harold Powell of Hartwell, GA, Jimmy L. Powell of Dallas, GA and Wayne T. Powell of Riverdale, GA; sisters, Martha Powell Yergin of Vero Beach, FL and Polly Powell Dunson of College Park, GA;Grandchildren, Martin Lynn White, Andrew Christopher White, John White, Reece White, Jessica Nell McMahon Sarah Christine McMahon and Joey McMahon; Four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.She is preceded in death by her Parents; Husband, Jesse Martin White; Brothers, Woodrow W. Powell, Lindsay G. Powell, L. Eugene "Gene" Powell, Jr,and Frank O. Powell; Sisters, Ruth P. Reese and Myra P. Fowler.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.Dr. M. Christopher White and Dr. S. Dale White will officiate.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel where the family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 ~ 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
