Mr. Claude S. Herring, 94, of 2262 Royston Hwy, Hartwell, died peacefully Friday, September 14, 2012 at AnMed Medical Center, in Anderson, SC.

Born on October 13, 1917 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late George E. Herring and Essie Smith Herring.He was the owner/operator of Herring Grocery, a life member of the American Legion and the VFW.He was a member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church, and was a World War II US Army veteran, serving in the African Theater.

Survivors include a son, Mike Herring and his wife Brenda of Hartwell; four grandchildren, Rhonda White, Todd Wilson, Michelle Brantley and Jonathan Herring; and five great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie McGee Herring; a daughter, Barbara Jean Wilson; four brothers; one sister; and a grandson, Brian Wilson.

Funeral services will be Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Don Richards and Rev. Richard Hoard officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
