Mr. Luther Clayton Bailey, 66 of 252 Wood Hollow Lane, Canon, died Wednesday, July 17 at his home.
Born on May 27, 1947 in Walhalla SC, he was the son of the late William Luther James Bailey and Eva Mae Hill Allen.He was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Co. and was a U S Army veteran.Mr. Bailey was a Private 1st Class in the 7th Army stationed in Germany during Vietnam.He was attached to the Persian Missile Defense Company, then assigned to the Machine Gun Company and later to the Sniper Company.After the Vietnam War, he served 4 years in Hartwell's National Guard Post.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Cooley Bailey; four daughters, Lisa (Steve) Seawright, Mary Ann (Tim) McLane, Rhonda (John) Bryant and Melissa (Kenneth) Dutton all of Hartwell; two brothers, Billy Bailey of Canon and Dennis Bailey of Lavonia; two sisters, Mary Lovelace of Hartwell and Winnie Lou Cole of Bowersville; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Emily Jean Morgan.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Ken Brewer officiating.Burial will be in the Bowers Memorial Park, Canon.
The body is at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night.The family is at the home of Mary Ann and Tim McLane, 429 Sunset Circle, Hartwell, GA30643.
