Mr. Charles O. "Bucky" Coggin, Jr, 84, of 834 Tom Rice Road, Canon, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Hart County Hospital.
Born on May 31, 1927 in DeKalb County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Charles O. Coggin, Sr and Martha Purgason Coggin. Mr. Coggin trained as a medic in the US Army and served in the military government as a military mayor in Youn Don Po, Korea.After returning to the United States, he served in the National Guard based in Elberton, GA. He retired as the Chief of Hart County Volunteer Fire Department after 20 years of service and he was retired from Anderson Auto Parts as a manager and outside salesman.In addition, he was a member of Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25, and former member of Savannah Valley Shrine Club, and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleene Partain "Kitty" Coggin of the home; one daughter, Pam Fleming and her husband Bobby of Hartwell; one son, Tim Coggin of Hartwell; one sister, Martha P. Coggin of Hartwell; and five grandchildren: Christie Fleming, Brian Fleming, Christopher Coggin, Katie Coggin, and Krista LeCroy. Mr. Coggin was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Jonathon Coggin.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Durham, Rev. Troy Ayers and Rev. Luther Thomason officiating.Burial will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday.The family is at the home.
