Col. Harry Brown Sewell, US Army Ret., age 91, of Lavonia, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Hart County Hospital.
Born December 14, 1916, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Marvin R. and Mattie Lee (Brown) Sewell. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School and George Washington University. Col. Sewell retired from the US Army, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church.
He is survived by wife: Elizabeth (Anderson) Sewell; and sons: Harry B. Sewell, Jr. of Silver Spring, MD and Timothy Sewell of Marietta, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother: Dr. Robert Sewell, and sister: Mrs. Helen Anderson.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Hershel Atkinson officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery.
The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
