Mr. Cornelius P. (Nean) Holmes, 88, of Bowman, died Saturday, December 13 at Cobb Health Care Center, Comer.
Born December 23, 1919 in Elbert County, he was the son of the late Prince Albert Holmes and Maude Alma Whitman Holmes. He was retired from Elberton Mills in security and was a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church. Mr. Holmes was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater.
He is survived by: sons, Neil Holmes, Bowman, Ga., Dan Holmes, Royston, Ga., and Keith Holmes, Bowman, Ga., daughters, Carol Maxwell, Bowman, Ga., and Joyce Royston, Royston, Ga., Twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death his wife, Mary Cecil Bond Holmes and by his daughter, Connie Holmes and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from the Coldwater United Methodist Church. Rev. Benjamin Wiles and Rev. Reggie Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Strickland Funeral Home-Hartwell Chapel. The family will be at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to Coldwater United Methodist Church, 1753 Coldwater Road, Elberton, Ga. 30635
