Roger Dale Chappelear, age 68, of Lavonia, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 1, 1950, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Henry Ray Chappelear and Mildred (Grubbs) Chappelear. He was a millwright general foreman for Voith Hydro directing the modernization of hydro turbines across the United States. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Marty Chappelear and his beloved four-legged Bailey; brothers: McRoss Chappelear, Bobby Chappelear, Kenneth Chappelear, and Mike Chappelear; and sisters: Rebecca Dowis, Jean Scott, Catherine Chappelear, and Arthurlene Ethridge.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammie, who so lovingly cared for him; son: Chris Chappelear; daughter & son-in-law: Morgan & Truett Floyd; grandchildren: Levi & Kayla Chappelear, Butch & Lasha Chappelear, Paisley Floyd, Eleanor Floyd, Henry Floyd, and Clara Floyd; three great-grandchildren; sisters: Bonnie Elliott, Jane King, and Debbie Johnson & brother-in-law, Dan; sisters-in-law: Imogene Chappelear, Ellen Chappelear, and Marian Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Kendall Chappelear, Hunter Chappelear, Junior Pruitt, Randy Chappelear, Rusty Chappelear, Russell King, and Tanner Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Ethridge, Tim Elliott, and James Scott.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home of grandson and granddaughter-in-law: Levi and Kayla Chappelear, Stone Bridge Road, Lavonia. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to St. Jude Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org), 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of one's choice.
