Mr. James Daniel "Dan" Butler, 87, of Sparta, TN, formerly of Hartwell, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 at his home.
Born on June 4, 1934 in Royston, GA, he was the son of the late Lee Thomas Butler Sr. and Lily Maudie Welborn Butler. Mr. Butler was a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer for the U. S. Navy where he served during the Vietnam and Korean War.. Mr. Butler worked for the Department of Navy after he retired as a warehouse manager for the Classification Department. Dan was a member of the Navy Fleet Reserves and First Baptist Church of Iva.
Survivors include his wife: Patricia Pitcock Butler; son: James M. Butler of Dawsonville, GA; daughter: Tammy Weeks of Stuart, FL; three step-sons: Bob Elrod of Royston, Brent Nealey of Salem, IL, and Trey Butler of McMinnville, TN; five step-daughters: Trina Wilson of Playa del Ray, CA, Tracy Barth of Gainesville, GA, Monica Lane of Sugar Hill, GA, Darlene Hickman of Barnesville, GA, and Rea Herndon of Carrollton, GA; one brother: Raymond Butler of Iva, SC; two sisters: Jan Latham and Mary Young, both of Iva, SC; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Butler is preceded in death by his parents; one son: Danny Jo Butler; one brother: Lee Thomas Butler Jr.; and one sister: Betty Ann Minor.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, January 6, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.Other times the family will be at their respective homes.
It was Dan's wishes to be cremated and a memorial service will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Gray officiating. His ashes will be entombed in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton GA.
