Dan Alvin Walters, age 87, of Lavonia, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at his home.

Born June 1, 1935, in Hart County, he was the son of the late Owen Judson Walters and Robbie Maret Walters. After high school he attended the University of Georgia. He retired from the United States Navy after twenty years of service, where he earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He worked for and retired from the United States Postal Service and enjoyed working on the family farm. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family and is remembered as the family patriarch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Lorimer Walters, Sarah Claudia Walters Satterwhite, and Bobby Walters.

He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Swanson Walters; children: Dale Walters (Susan), Don Walters, Dawn Walters, and Dennis Walters (Judy); grandchildren: Jessica (Micah), Morgan (Kyle), Mackenzie (Teren), Sara (Joey), and Madison; great-grandchildren: Kasli and Coast.

The funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Rev. Courtney Umbehant officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until the service. At Mr. Walters' request, cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Franklin and Hart County Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapters.
