Mr. Darby Gene Welborn, 75, of Lavonia, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1942, in Carnesville, he was the son of the late Moody S. and Sula (Andrews) Welborn. After graduating from Lavonia High School he attended Emmanuel College. Before retirement he worked at Franklin Industries and the City of Lavonia. He served in the Army National Guard for 24 years. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson: Tyrus Weaver, sisters: Geneva Pitts and Sara Sue Thomas; and brother: Moody Welborn, Jr.
He is survived by his wife: Malinda (Vickery) Welborn of the home; daughter & son-in-law Gina Weaver & Joseph; and grandchildren: Lauren and Boone Weaver.
The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. John Forbes and Dr. Joe Renfro officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City-Burgess Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home of Gina and Joseph Weaver.
