Mr. Darold Peter Cherry, age 90, of Canon, died Saturday, March 11, 2012 at his residence.
Born November 21, 1921, in Marianna, FL, he was the son of the late Joe Arthur and Esther Mae (Hansen) Cherry. He was a refrigeration Engineer with Treasure Isle Inc. and was a US Navy veteran of WWII serving in the American-European Pacific. Mr. Cherry was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church and former member of Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, FL.
He is survived by his wife: Josephine (Cid) Cherry; daughters: Mary K. Fennell of Macon, L. Darlene Byrd of Haines City, FL, Esther A. Moulder of Canon, & Melanie C. Schultz of Suwanee; brother: Carl C. Cherry of St. Petersburg, FL; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and special caregiver: Mrs. Doris Pearson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers: Jack Cherry & Floyd Cherry.
A celebration of life services will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A visitation and graveside service will be held in Brandon, FL on March 25, 2012.
In lieu of flowers the family request donation be made in memory of Mr. Cherry to Lavonia First Baptist Church Building Fund or The Gideon International.
