Mr. James David Powell, age 50, of Hartwell, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born February 1, 1962, in Franklin County, he was the son of Patsy (Anthony) Williams and Gus Powell. He attended Faith Valley Holiness Church in Royston.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Sadie Peeples & Martin Anthony and Sam & Viola Powell; step-father: Clayton Williams; and uncle: Gordon Anthony.
He is survived by his mother: Patsy (Anthony) Williams of Canon; father and step-mother: Gus & Betty Powell of Lavonia; and siblings: Brenda Fulbright & Tommy of Canon, Patricia Little & Tim of Martin, Susan Tyson of Louisiana, Deborah Fowler & Ricky of Lincoln, NE, Susan Ayers & Gary of Royston, Bobby Williams & Melissa of Georgia, and Lisa Cawthon & Jimmy of Canon. Several nieces & nephews, several aunts & uncles, and special friend: Darlene also survive.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Hubert Carter and Rev. MikeFugate officiating. Burial will follow in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 451 Shoal Creek Road, Lavonia, GA 30553.
