David Lavaughn Skelton, age 64, of Lavonia, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
David, affectionately known as "Cherokee" to his friends, was born November 19, 1957, in Tifton, GA, the son of the former Loretta Myers and the late Lester Skelton. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Prior to retirement, David worked in maintenance with Latexco in Lavonia. He loved to fish and camp, especially with his family. He was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years: Vicki Bailey Skelton; mother & step-father: Loretta & Gwinnett Berryman; son & daughter-in-law: Lucas & Elizabeth Skelton; daughter & son-in-law: Hannah & Jonathan Gailey; grandchildren of the home: Payden Skelton, Kallie Skelton, and Chandler Skelton; grandchildren: Kamdyn Dudley, Braylee Garrett, Madison Frix, Landon Maney, and Braxton Skelton. He is also survived by his sisters: Gail McFarlin and Penny Spratlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
There will be a celebration of David's life Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tugaloo State Park group shelter. The family invites all friends and family to come share their memories of David.
