Mr. David Lee Umbehant, age 72, of Demorest, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
David was born November 17, 1946 in Banks County, he was a son of the late Everett Nash Umbehant and Mary Frances (York) Umbehant. He owned and operated Mt. Airy Auto Center for a number of years and retired as a mail carrier for the US Post Office in Cornelia. David was a US Marine Corps Veteran and was a member of the Cornelia Masonic Lodge.
David loved his family and being the oldest of six siblings he had his work cut out for him.He fell in love with Margaret Dill and they soon married and have been together for more than fifty years. He was very proud of his daughters, Alison and Monica. Alison married Donald Singer and they have two children Conor and Emma and Monica married Jason Welborn and they have two children Marly and Jett. These grandchildren were the apple of his eye. In addition to his immediate family he is survived by his siblings: Eddie Umbehant & Pam, Gale Umbehant, Ricky Umbehant & Hazel, Mickey Umbehant & Teresa and Dale Davidson & Rick; sisters-in-law: Faye Unbehant and Janice Griggs; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
David committed his life to the Lord at one of his hospital stays about six months ago and has testified ever since of how great it felt and that he wished he had done that a long time ago.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2019 at New Vision Worship Center in Baldwin with Rev. Terry Rice, Rev. Mickey Umbehant and Rev. Courtney Umbehant officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Conor Singer, Jett Welborn, Donald Singer, Jason Welborn, Clint Umbehant and William Umbehant.
