Mr. Carl David Whitworth, age 74, of Lavonia, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center.
Born April 5, 1939, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Tillman and Ossie Bell (Mosley) Whitworth. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School and a veteran of the US National Guard. He retired from General Telephone & Electronics and the Lavonia Fire Department. After retirement, he worked with Strickland Funeral Home for many years, as well as refereeing Recreation League Ball. Mr. Whitworth was a former Lavonia City Councilman and a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Ruth Thorne Whitworth; brothers: Howard Whitworth, Dwight Whitworth, Jerry Whitworth, Roy Whitworth, and Rev. Joe Whitworth.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Chad & Michelle Whitworth and Chuck & Roseanne Whitworth; grandsons: Jake, Drew, Will, Brody, and Dalton Whitworth; sister: Mozelle Dye; and brother: Bennie Whitworth.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Barnes Academy, 154 Hart Service Rd, Hartwell, GA, 30643.
