Dennis Gary Spears, age 79, of Lavonia, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020 at his home.
Born May 10, 1940, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Horace & Annie Mae (Starr) Spears. He was a 1959 graduate of Lavonia High School and served in the US Army Reserves. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as a highway engineer. Mr. Spears was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church and the Zack Daniel Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother: Harold Spears.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Suzanne (Haley) Spears; son: Bryan Spears; son & daughter-in-law: Eric & Krystle Spears; brother & sister-in-law: Truett & Gwen Spears; sister-in-law: Mattie Spears; grandchildren: Nikki Lee & fiancé Michael Smith, Jessica Spears, Justin Spears, and Katelyn Spears; great-grandchildren: Kylie, Joanna, and Kayson; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with burial following at Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The family will not be present, but the body will lie in state at the funeral home Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lavonia First Baptist Church.
