Obituary
Mr. Donald Jay Long, 87, of 681 Bowen Rd, Hartwell, died Saturday, September 04, 2010 at his home.
Born on December 31, 1922 in Shelby NC, he was the son of the late John Odell Long and Mary Llese Hord Long.He was a retired machinist from Buford Dam & Powerhouse, Lake Lanier Project.He was a member of NARFE, AARP, Athens Rock & Gem, Savannah River Valley Geological Society, Georgia Antique Engine Club, Cumming First Baptist Church and the Hartwell American Legion Post 109.He was US Army veteran, where served in WW II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Moody Long of the home; daughter, Donna Ruth Long of Hartwell; four grandchildren, Christina Stapler, Ann Cole, Lynn Floyd & Joe Roberts also survive.Mr. Long was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Josephine Long Roberts and a sister, Josephine Elaine Long.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating. Mr. Long wished to be cremated after his services.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon.The family is at the home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd, Suite 10, Atlanta GA 30345.
