Don G. Welborn,83, of Hartwell, Ga passed peacefully away on July 4, 2026 at Hartwell Health and Rehab.

Born April 13, 1943, in Hartwell, Ga, Don was the son of the late Sloan Patrick Welborn and Eunice Byrum Welborn. He was a business owner for many years in the restaurant business. Mr. Welborn later went into law enforcement and retired from Elbert County Detention Center.

Don enjoyed spending time with those who were closest to him. He was a man of few words, but you never knew what he was going to say! He was known to many as “Daddy Don”, and then had the privilege of becoming “Papa Don”. He had a laugh that was very contagious and the kindest brown eyes. He enjoyed the outdoors. Watching (sleeping through) NASCAR. He enjoyed keeping his devoted wife on her toes. He was loved by many and will be missed.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Welborn Rowe, Ann Welborn and brothers, Tony Welborn and James Welborn.

He leaves behind his spouse of 51 years, Betty Campbell Welborn; Daughter Dawn (Lance) Carter, Betsy (George) Herring of Hartwell; Son Keith (Missy) Crocker of Belton SC. Granddaughter Elizabeth (Zack) Brister. Grandsons: Sloan (Brittanie) Johnson, Cameron (Hannah) Carter, Hunter Carter, Landry Carter. Matt (Julia) Herring, Bryan Crocker, Brent (Sara) Crocker, and 10 great grandchildren. Sibling, Joy Welborn Stratton along with numerous extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hartwell Health and Rehab for the devotion they gave to Don and to the family during his short stay. The family would also like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Affinis Hospice in the care and attention during a very difficult time.

Don requested to be cremated and no memorial services will be held at this time. Family will be at their respective homes.

The Strickland Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hartwell is assisting the family with all of the arrangements.
