Mr. Donnie L. Vassar Sr., 61, of Mt. Olivet School Road, Hartwell, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at his home.

Born on June 18, 1955 in Anderson SC, he was the son of the late William Edgar Vassar Sr. and Mattie Lou Crisp Crook.Mr. Vassar was a former Truck Driver and attended Price Chapel Church of God.

Survivors include his two daughters: Angela V. Gibbs (Kendrick) and Deanna V. Daniel (Chip) all of Hartwell; his sons: Bryan Vassar and Donnie L. "D.J." Vassar Jr both of Hartwell and Jeffrey Freeman of Athens and eight grandchildren: Tyler Vassar, Avery Gibbs, Hannah Vassar, Olivia Gibbs, Karlie Daniel, Kylee Vassar, Jayden Freeman and Layla Freeman.Mr. Vassar is also survived by a brother: William E. "Eddie" Vassar Jr. of Pelzer SC.Mr. Vassar was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Betty Lou Hayes.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 4:00 pm in the Memorial Garden of Prayer with Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night.The family is at the home of Deanna & Chip Daniel, 402 Vickery Street, Hartwell.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to defray medical and funeral expenses.
