Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" (David) Dawkins, age 92, of Lavonia, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at her home.
Born January 19, 1926, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Maddie Ruth (Daniel) David. She was a graduate of Royston High School. After high school, she moved from Royston to Kannapolis, NC to work at Cannon Mills during World War II. She married Hugh Ervin Dawkins in February 1945. Mrs. Dawkins retired from Stone Manufacturing as an inspector. She was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist church and Widow's Hope of Royston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters: Eunice Beck and Reba Rousey; and brothers: Clifford David and Alan David.
She is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law: Mike & Gloria Dawkins of Greenville, SC and Ernie & Marie Dawkins of Lavonia; sister: Mary Scott of Royston; brother: Bobby David of Winston; grandchildren: Kirk & Ashley Dawkins, David & Danni Dawkins, and Adam & Taunya Dawkins; great-grandchildren: Maley Dawkins, Reese Dawkins, Ava Dawkins, and Sarah Grace Dawkins.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with the Rev. Dr. Lacey Bowcock officiating. A private burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Lavonia United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 176, Lavonia, GA 30553.
