Dorothy Lewis Mauldin of 12552 Augusta Rd., Lavonia, died the 6th day of September, 2012 at Stephens County Hospital. Born in Hart County, GA, on October 24, 1921, she was the wife of Guy Mauldin, Jr., and the daughter of the late Hubert W. Lewis and Sallie Emily Dooley Lewis.
She was a retired Elementary School teacher having served in Hart, Morgan, and Franklin Counties for 43 years. Mrs. Mauldin was a graduate of Hart County High School, North Georgia Junior College and received her B.S. Education Degree from the University of Georgia. She was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was also a lifetime member of the State of Georgia Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving are her husband, Guy Mauldin, Jr., a daughter, Sandra M. Whitlock of Acworth, GA, son, Jimmy L. Mauldin of Lavonia, sister, Mary DeFoor of Athens, GA, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death, were son, Jerry W. Mauldin, and brothers, Joe Carey Lewis, Tom W. Lewis, & Larry Lewis.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Dick Patton officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service. The family has requested that memorials be made to the Lavonia First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 47, Lavonia, GA 30553.
