Mrs. Dorothy Mae Ponder Strickland, 88, of Savannah, GA, died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Riverview Health & Rehab in Savannah, GA.

Born on April 19, 1924 in New Boston, TX, she was the daughter of the late James Ponder and Ella Nunn Ponder Clingan.She was a retired housemother for the Hart County TMR Center and was a member of Reed Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons: David R. Strickland and his wife Barbara of Savannah, GA, Richard Larry Strickland and his wife Lisa of Laplata, MD, and J. Michael Strickland and his wife Kathy of Columbia, TN; nine grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren also survive.Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.D. Strickland; and a son, Charles D. Strickland.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Sam Delaney officiating.Burial will be in the Reed Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, special memorials may be made to the Reed Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 116 Boleman Hill Road, Hartwell, GA30643.
