Obituary
John Douglas "Doug" Toney, 76, of Bowersville Road, Hartwell, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital, Lavonia, with his caring and loving wife by his side.
Born on February 13, 1942 in Hartwell GA, he was the son of the late Oscar Eugene Toney and Dolie Mae Hall Toney. He was a graduate of Hart County High School.Mr. Toney was a Machinist for Owens-Corning Fiberglass, Owner-Operator of Toney's Aluminum Foundry and Owner-Operator of Toney's Sanitation and Recycling Inc.He was also a former member of the Hart Co. JC's, served in the Georgia Army National Guard for 6 years and finished his enlistment ranked as a Specialist Fifth Class and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years & 9 months, who always called him "Tony": Vivian Smith Toney; two sons: Kevin Toney and Phyllis, Ron Toney and Stacey all of Hartwell; two sisters: Louise Norris of Canon and Phyllis Thrasher of Hartwell; four grandchildren: Kristi Myerholtz and Grant, Jessica Seawright and Jason, Brian Toney and Heather and Shana Toney and her companion Taylor Certain; seven great-grandchildren: Kylie Seawright, Canaan Myerholtz, Makenna Seawright, Hayden Bryan, Braden Toney, LilyAnn Myerholtz and Carter Toney and many nieces and nephews.Mr. Toney was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Shawn Toney; two brothers-in-law: Gary Norris and Joe E. Thrasher and his faithful companion Buster.
A memorial service celebrating Doug's life will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Lane Stephenson and granddaughter Miss Shana Toney officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell from 3:00 to 4:00 pm prior to the service. The family is at the home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Affinis Hospice, 2565 Thompson Bridge Road, Suite 110, Gainesville GA 30501.
The family would like to thank the staff of Affinis Hospice and St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital for the wonderful care of our loved one during this time.
