Mr. Douglas Lee Hilley, 91, of Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at his home.

Born on November 29, 1931 in Hartwell GA, he was the son of the late Ottis W. Hilley and Ella Gaines Hilley.  Mr. Hilley retired after 36 years of service from Owens Corning Fiberglass, Anderson Plant.  After retiring from Owens Corning he became a Bus Driver for the Hart County School System for 13 years and also started serving as a Bailiff for the Hart County Courthouse. Mr. Hilley served as a Bailiff for 30 years and was the Chief Bailiff for a number of years. During the same time he was serving as a Bailiff, he also served as an assistant Funeral Director for 30 years as well.  Mr. Hilley was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, a Deacon and served on various committees over his lifetime.  He was also a U.S. Army, Korean War Veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years: June Cordell Hilley, two sons: Keith Hilley (Libby) and Ted Hilley (Vicki) all of Hartwell; two sisters: Shirley Pulliam (Marshall) of Royston and Glenda Ford of Loganville; three grandchildren: Alisa Pilgrim (Lee), Sam Hilley (Ainsley Vassar) and Ashley Munro (Linden); four great-grandchildren: Jackson Pilgrim, Charleston Pilgrim, Morah Munro and Esther Munro also survive.  Mr. Hilley was preceded in death his parents; his sister: Geneva Hilley Beggs; and two brothers: Richard Hilley and Lake Hilley

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral services for Mr. Doug Hilley will be Monday, August 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Vincent and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating.  Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church, 4359 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA 30643.
