Obituary

Mr. Durell Talmadge Vaughn, 88, of 551 Goldmine-Holly Springs Rd, Royston, died Friday, November 27, 2009 at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center.

Born on April 30, 1921 in Franklin Co. GA, he was the son of the late Dewitt T. Vaughn and Ruth Elizabeth "Lizzie" LeCroy Vaughn.He was formerly employed by Newton Mills and retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Co. where he served as line-supervisor, and Bi-Lo of Royston. He was a member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church where he served as Deacon; he was a farmer and served in the US Navy during WWII.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dwain and Selma Vaughn of Royston; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Billy Vickery of Royston, Patsy and Clinton Rice of Norcross; daughter-in-law, Mabel Vaughn of Royston; two sisters, Helen Thompson of Royston, and Sandra Massey of Bowman; seven grandchildren, Brian, Keith, Robert, Lesia, Pam, Greg, and Kevin. He also has 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leila Kay Vaughn; son, Kenneth Larry Vaughn; sisters, Madge Howington, Mildred Mize, and Imogene Sanders Lunceford; and granddaughter, Kimberly Rice.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holly Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Westbrook and Rev. Bobby Jones officiating.Burial will be at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening. The family is at the home.
