Mr. Dwayne Reid Chitwood, 45, of 608 Rockdale Road, Bethany Community, Canon, died Monday, September 26, 2011 at his home after an 11 month battle with cancer.

Born in Royston GA, he was the son of Nora Jean Leard Chitwood and the late James Reid Chitwood.He was a Field Operations Supervisor for Royston LLC and a member of the Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge and Royston Masonic Lodge.Dwayne had participated with the Hart County Relay for Life and the Franklin County Relay for Life for several years.He was a member of the Canon Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force Veteran.

Survivors include his mother, Nora Jean Chitwood of Royston; his wife, Wendy K. Cheek Chitwood of Canon; two sons, Wesley Chitwood and Wade Chitwood both of Canon; a daughter, Mary Beth Chitwood of Canon; three sisters, Miranda Barnes and her husband Lary of Lexington GA, Donna Rush and her husband J.G. of Arnoldsville GA and Christy Teate and her husband Anthony of Lavonia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Chris Cheek of Canon; sister-in-law, Brenda Powell and her husband Beau of Canon; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Eldon Massey officiating with Military Honors and Masonic Rites at the conclusion of the service.

The family is at the home and will also receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the home of Joe and Chris Cheek, 73 Cheek Lane, Bethany Community, Canon.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to T J and Friends Foundation Inc, 1675 Deep Creek Rd, Dewy Rose GA 30634.
