Mrs. Edith Louise Rhodes Bailey, 67, of 1977 Harold Ave., Smyrna GA, died Sunday, September 17 at Lake Point Assisted Living, Hartwell GA.
Born on August 29, 1939 in Blue Ridge GA, she was the daughter of the late Hanley Rhodes and Jessie Clark Rhodes.She was a retired Sales Person for Haverty's Furniture, where she received the Eagle Award for outstanding sales performance.She was a graduate of East Fanning High School, where she played basketball and was voted "Most Athletic".She was a seamstress, worked in fashion merchandising and interior decorating, enjoyed music and sang in a trio that recorded Gospel albums.She was a former president of the Green Acres Elementary PTA, a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader and formerly directed the Children Choir at Bethel Baptist Church, Smyrna.She was a member of the Green Acres Baptist Church, where she was formerly on the decorating committee, choir member and former director of VBS.
Survivors include her husband; Wade H. Bailey of the home; Clark Bailey and his wife Kim of Canton GA; a daughter: Ponda B. Showalter and her husband Gene of Randleman NC; two brothers: Bob Rhodes of Blue Ridge GA and Charles Rhodes of Smyrna; a sister: Carole Davis of Blue Ridge; two grandchildren: Nicholas Clark Bailey and Corbin Wade Showalter also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Joe Rhodes and a sister: Dorothy Abercrombie.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Hot House Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Cheatham officiating.
