Obituary
Mrs. Edith "Edie" Edna Holland Kane, 69, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at her home.
Edie was born September 2, 1952, on MacDill Airforce Base in Tampa, Florida. She grew up in Sylvester, Georgia, and attended Worth County High School. She went on to graduate from Troy University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Georgia Southwestern State University with a Master of Arts in Education.
Edie was blessed with a loving family, which started with a true story of "love at first sight" when she met Steve Kane at Troy University, where they were both undergraduate students. After only three dates, Steve and Edie eloped on July 14, 1972. Edie was an incredible mother to her three children, Eden, Erin, and Jim; and she raised them with an abundance of love and laughter. She taught them to love reading, to appreciate trees, to take photos of anything and everything, and to enjoy traveling the world.
Edie was a lifelong educator at heart, and she cherished passing on her joy and passion for short stories, books, and written words to her many students throughout her nearly 40 years in the classroom as an English/Language Arts teacher. She received the STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) teacher award twice during her tenure at Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia. Edie was never without a camera, and she worked for many years as the yearbook advisor in the schools where she taught. She retired from teaching in 2020 and then moved to Hartwell, Georgia, with her husband after they fell in love with the area.
Edie is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Stephen Kane; daughter Eden S. Tresize and her husband, Neil; daughter Erin Kane Johnson and her husband, Jayson; son James Kane and his wife, Sarah; seven grandchildren that she loved more than anything: Noah and Camille Tresize, Edna and Veda Johnson, Linda-Rei, Max, and Teddy Kane; and her sisters Priscilla Holland Carter and Rebecca Holland Johnson.
Edie will be dearly missed by all of her loved ones, former students, colleagues, and friends.
