Mrs. Edith Estes Sanders, 85 of 350 Cleveland Ave. Hartwell; died Saturday, September 13, 2008 at her home.
Born on May 3, 1923 in Hart County; she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Annie Jordan Estes. Edith was the beloved wife of Howard Sanders to whom she was married to for over 68 years. She was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Company, a devoted member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church, the ladies Sunday School Class and UMW.She loved each member.
Edith is survived by three daughters: Peggy Price and her husband John T., Barbara Cox, Judy Partain and her husband Terrell; six grandchildren: Dale Price, Jan Jordan and Friend Marty Welborn, Debra Ethridge and her husband Ron, Marty Clark and his wife Anna, Mickey Chatham, Terri Partain and friend Hunter Breland; six great grandchildren: Cody Price, A.J. and Kinsey Ethridge, Macon and Leeanna Clark, Charlie Chatham.She loved and adored each child, grandchild, and great grandchild. Each one was her "favorite".
She was a simple woman who lived and loved the simple life. Also, special and loved is her dalmation dog appropriately named Spot.After the tragic loss of her white German Shepherd, Sandy, God blessed her with Spot. As she was outside one fall afternoon in her swing, he came up to her as a stray and has been there since.
Edith was preceded in death by a brother Hugh Estes. She is survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Estes and nephew Terry Estes and his wife Kathy; also, a sister-in-law Louise Sanders.The family would like to express their appreciation to each one who extended any act of kindness to Edith during her illness.A special thanks to Crystal Navarro, Janie Byrum and Faye Whiten for being her friend.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Martha Dye and Rev. Meg Morrison officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m. Monday night.The family is at the home.
