Mrs. Edna Christine (Lambert) Allgood, age 86, of Bowersville, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at her home, following an extended illness.
Born January 22, 1925 in Temple, GA, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Gladys (Willoughby) Lambert. She was retired from Carwood Manufacturing after many years of service. She owned and operated Allgood's Grocery in Lavonia with her husband Hugh Allgood. Mrs. Allgood was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church and the Caring and Sharing Circle. She also founded the Over 50 Club and served as head of the church kitchen committee for many years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Allgood; grandsons: Dustin and Daniel Wade; five brothers and one sister.
Survivors include daughters: Susan Gorman of Lavonia, Brenda Cleveland of Bowersville, Karen Allgood of Gainesville, and Wanda Wade Bailey of Hartwell; four grandchildren: Rev. Phillip Maxwell, Valarie Reeves, Rodney Cleveland, and Heather Rickman; and four great granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Maxwell officiating. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home of Larry and Susan Gorman 296 Hillcrest Drive, Lavonia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 855 Gaines School Road, Suite G, Athens, GA 30605 or to the charity of your choice.
