Mrs. Edna Thornton Morris Pfaender, 93, of East Franklin Street, Hartwell, passed away Sunday, November, 26, 2017.
Born on May 25, 1924 in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Louie Lignon Morris and Edna Priscilla Thornton Morris.Mrs. Pfaender was a 76 year member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church. She was a 1942 graduate of Hart County High School and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. Mrs. Pfaender met her husband Max during World War II.After Mr. & Mrs. Pfaender moved to Hartwell, her father Louie Morris and Mr. Pfaender, in 1947, founded the WKLY Radio Station. Mrs. Pfaender served as the Women's Editor of WKLY during its early years. She was a charter member of the Nancy Hart Garden Club, served as President of the Ladies Golf Association, an officer of the Northview Cemetery Association, a member of the DAR, and after Mr. Pfaender's passing was publisher of the Hartwell Sun.
Survivors include three daughters: Ginny Gryder, wife of Mike Gryder of Roswell, GA; Kathy Pfaender of Hartwell; JoAnn Heaton wife of Larry Heaton of Hartwell; four grandchildren, Glenn Gryder of Roswell, GA; Max Gryder of Cumming, GA; Ginna Mouchet, wife of Steven Mouchet of Bowersville, GA; DeeAnn Moore of Hartwell; and seven great-grandchildren.Mrs. Pfaender was preceded in death by her husband, Max G. Pfaender and her sister, Mrs. William Hill (Sue) Hudson, Jr.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Northview Cemetery with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating.Prior to the graveside service, the family gathered for a private viewing and memorial service at the Strickland Funeral Home.
The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell was in charge of all arrangements.Memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Pfaender to the Hartwell First United Methodist Church; 200 East Howell Street; Hartwell, GA.
