Mr. Elbert Lee Fleming, 95, of Elberton Hwy, Dewy Rose, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on November 30, 1928 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Sam Jones Fleming and Effie Fleming Herring. Mr. Fleming was a farmer, and a member of the Sardis Baptist Church where he was a deacon, former Sunday School teacher, and he served on various committees throughout the church. He was also a member of the Gideons International, Hart County Camp.
Survivors include his two sons: Kenneth (Margo) Fleming of Dewy Rose and Richard (Martha) Fleming of Royston; three daughters: Rhonda Fleming of Hartwell, Wanda Pilgrim of Dewy Rose, and Pam (Randy) Gambrell of Dewy Rose; one sister: Peggy Hale of Hartwell; nineteen grandchildren: Stephanie (Mike) McElduff, Aubrey (Chas) Dickenson, Samantha (Sam) Skelton, Amelia (Torrey) Cazalas, Candice Shiflet, Julie (Stephen) Sullens, Chad (Emmelin) Shiflet, Kelly (John) Cassidy, McKenzie (Stewart) Smith, Lee (Alisa) Pilgrim, Camran (Erin) Fleming, Ryan (Marlee) Fleming, Alexa (Tyler) Addison, Bilee Jane (Andy) Garcia, Justin Ward, Brittany (Reece) Britt, Amanda (Justin) Jenniges, Andrew (Wendalyn) Gambrell, Zach (Megan) Gambrell; 38 great grandchildren and special friends: Helen Willis Chapman, Greg and Tonya Fleming and their family.
Mr. Fleming is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years, Betty Milford Fleming; son-in-law: Kenneth Pilgrim; two brothers: Theron Fleming & Gerald Herring and Lillian Cleveland & Sarah Lacobie.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes.
Funeral services for Mr. Elbert Fleming will be held Monday, December 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Vincent and Rev. Brennon Gatewood officiating. Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the Gideons International, Hart Co. Camp, P.O. Box 59, Hartwell, GA 30643, or Sardis Baptist Church , 4359 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA 30643.
The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
