Obituary

Mrs. Elinor Maxwell Bond, 88, of 625 Benson Street, Hartwell, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Hart Care Center.
Born on November 24, 1923 in Oconee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Hamden Maxwell and Clara Delle Newton Maxwell.She was a former member of the Pilot Club of Seneca, SC where she served in all the various offices.She was also the former governor of the South Carolina District of the Pilot Club International from 1962-1963 and she was an active and dedicated member of the Pilot Club of Hartwell for many years.She was retired from the Hart County School System where she taught 5th and 6th grade English and Reading at Hartwell Elementary from 1966 until 1988.She was affectionately known as "Mama Bond" by her students and was remembered as having a quote on her wall in her classroom; 1 Timothy 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example…in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity." She was a very devoted member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church.In her earlier days, she taught the Wallace White Men's Sunday School Class and led a devotion between services on Sunday mornings.She spread her love of the church and God to others in the community by starting what is now the "Dial-A-Prayer" ministry.Over the years, she was active in the Sojourners, and the Sunshine Club.She was a member of the Live-Wire Wesley Class and the May Lily-McCurry UMW Circle Group. Elinor was always involved in the many activities at the church and was a spark of life to all she was involved in.
Mrs. Bond was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Hubert Bond.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating.Burial will follow in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday.The family is at their respective homes.
