. Elizabeth Hall Vickery, age 88, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta.

Mrs. Vickery, widow of Herbert M. Vickery, was born June 10, 1921 in Hart County, the daughter of Homer H. and Curtis Bannister Hall. She was a graduate of Hartwell High School and LaGrange College.

She was a retired school teacher, having taught social studies at Hart County High School most of her career. In addition, she taught extemporaneous speaking, and she organized and coached the school's debate team, leading them to state and southeastern championships. She was named the first Key Coach for the Barkley Forum sponsored by Emory University. She was named the 1968 HCHS STAR teacher.Mrs. Vickery was the first woman to be appointed to serve on the Hart County Board of Education. She jointly organized the Hartwell Music Club, and was a member of the John Benson Chapter, DAR.She was a devoted lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities .She organized and directed a children's choir, served many years as a delegate to the North Georgia Annual Conference; and served the church as a soloist. She frequently sang at weddings, funerals, and other special events.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Vickery McNeal of Atlanta; a grandson, Marc McNeal, of Atlanta; and a brother, Horace Hall of Maysville, Missouri.

. The funeral service will be held Friday morning, June 4, at 11:00 at the First United Methodist Church, Hartwell, with Dr. Allen Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Northview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home Flowers are optional; memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hartwell, 200 E. Howell Street, Hartwell, Georgia 30643.
