Obituary

Mrs. Ellie Norman McElheney, 93, of Stone Mountain GA, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017.

Born in Hartwell GA on August 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Ellington Hawse Norman.She graduated from Hartwell High School and attended one year at Georgia Teachers College, now Georgia Southern at Statesboro and then graduated from the University of Georgia.She received her masters degree in elementary education from Georgia State University.She retired from Dekalb County after 32 years of teaching in Hart County, City of Atlanta and Dekalb County schools.She was admired and respected by her students and fellow staff and remained interested in all her former students.

While teaching in Atlanta, she met and married Marion E. McElheney, an Industrial Engineer at Lockheed Martin Aircraft.They continued living in Atlanta until 1979 when they moved to Stone Mountain.She was a member of the Briarlake Baptist Church and was a former member of the Winsome Class.She was a former member of the Hartwell UDC and after retirement a former member of the Dekalb County Retired Educators Association.

When she and her husband retired they traveled extensively in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.They traveled to the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia Argentina and also to Hammerfest Norway, the world's northernmost town.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marion E. "Mac" McElheney; her daughter, Norma M. Robertson; her son: Dr. N. Earl McElheney and five grandchildren: Taylor, Megan and Connor McElheney and Stephen and Matthew Robertson.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Hartwell GA with Rev. Carter Tucker officiating.
