Mr. Emmett Barron Sanders, 76, of 141 Gloria Drive, Hartwell, died Saturday, August 12, 2006, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
Born September 4, 1929 in Hart County, he was a son of the late Emory Emmett and Texie Partain Sanders.He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War.Mr. Sanders retired as a Metropolitan Insurance Agent after 37 years of service and was a former member of the Hartwell Lions Club.He was an active member of Flat Shoals Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, an Usher, and a member of the Men's Bible Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Coile Sanders of the home; a son, Wesley B. Sanders of Temecula, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry Lawrence of Hartwell; a brother, Alton Sanders of Hartwell; three sisters, Faye Zeigler of San Dimas, CA, Annis Conway of High Point, NC, and Katherine Thomason of Lavonia, GA; a grandson, Adam J. Sanders; two step-grandchildren, Travis Lawrence and Sharon Peace; two step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend of the family, Joelan Mackey.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melissa Rene Sanders, and a brother, Everett Sanders.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 14, 2006, at the Hartwell Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Wendall Bannister, Rev. Eddy Mattison, Rev. Bill Vaughn, and Rev. Frank Sailors officiating.Burial will follow in Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Sunday evening.The family is at the home of Judy and Larry Lawrence, 309 Crumps Road, Hartwell.
