Mrs. Estelle Willie Mae (Suits) Wood, age 83, of Lavonia, died Thursday, November 27, 2008 surrounded by her family.
She was born December 21, 1924 to the late William & Alice (Campbell) Suits. She was an Avon representative for 26 years and a homemaker. Mrs. Wood was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, where she served as Bible School Director for 10 years, Sunday School Teacher for 6 years, sang in the choir, and was a member of the WMU. She was also formerly a 26 year correspondent for the Lavonia Times, Franklin County Citizen, and Hartwell Sun.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Claude S. Wood; and sister: Annie (Suits) Ginn.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law: Lane & Sylvia Wood of Lavonia and Roger & Pam Wood of Hartwell; daughter: Emelete (Wood) Carter of Lavonia; daughter and son-in-law: Linda (Wood) & Calvin Hitchcock of Fairburn; half-brother: Donald Suits of Carnesville; nephew: Jimmy Stone of Hartwell; niece: Patsy Elliott of Lavonia; grandchildren: Robin O'Briant, Tina, Jody, & Chad Carter, Corey & Brandi Hitchcock, Renee Adams, & Teresa Grubbs; and great-grandchildren: Drew O'Briant, Jade & Jared Moorhead, Chris Carter, Brittany McCurley, Olivia, Zachery, & Ayden Adams, and Nathan & Gynger Grubbs.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2008 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with Revs. Tim Rice, Jonathan Ayers, & Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Revs. Tyrone Hutchinson, & Michael Fugate officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home: Highway 59, Shoal Creek Community.
