Mr. Eugene Broughton "Gene" Hill, 81, of 127 Condor Street, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Born on May 20, 1930 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Marvin Hill and Maggie Smith Hill.He was a retired loom fixer for Hartwell Mills and a member of Reed Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Hill was also a former race car driver, he loved to hunt, and did bush hog work for the public.

Survivors include his wife, Loretha Baker Hill of the home; one step-son, Mitch Vassar of Hartwell; one brother, Carey Hill of Elberton; one sister, Elizabeth "Libby" Johnson of Canon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents; one step-son, Mike Vassar; one brother, Kenneth Hill; and one sister, Mary Fowler.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Dulaney officiating.
