Mrs. Eva Nell Moon, age 89, of Lavonia, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at her home. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charles Herman Moon. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for over 80 years.
Mrs. Moon attended Rabun Gap College in Dillard, Georgia in the late 1930's. It was here she met her future husband, Charles Moon. After college, she taught school for a brief period of time in Tiger, Georgia and at Whitworth School in Lavonia, Georgia.
For many years Eva Nell Moon and Ida Ruth Walters owned and operated the Lavonia Sewing Center. Later, Mrs. Moon moved her business home where she continued to sew for clientele until her recent illness.
Mrs. Moon was the daughter of the late Jones Moody Franks and Ollie Smith Franks. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Louie Moon and wife Diane; Travis Moon and wife Peggy; and daughter, Vernelle Stratton and her husband Jerry. Mrs. Moon is survived by seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She has two surviving sisters, Bremer Jolly and Terri Patat. She was preceded in death by brothers, Bud Franks and Jones Franks; and sisters, Burris Crowell and Rosellen Ray.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 18, 2011 at thePleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Doug Ferguson, Rev. Doug Goss, and Rev. Josh Harvill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at other hours the family will be at the home on Pleasant Hill Road.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
