Evelyn Rehbein Baetzel, 94, passed away Friday, October 31 at Lake Pointe Assisted Living, Hartwell, GA.
Mrs. Baetzel was born September 2, 1914 to Cassie and Carl Rehbein in Pittsford, New York. She graduated from Pittsford High School and Rochester Institute of Technology.When the family dairy farm was sold, she continued working in the Pittsford school system and retired as dietician. She was active in St. Paul's Lutheran church in Pittsford, a 4-H leader, Eastern Star member and Meals on Wheels volunteer. She and Warren retired to Myrtle Beach, SC. She was active in St Phillips Lutheran Church, Order of Amaranth, and worked in the Soup Kitchen and Meals on Wheels with her good friend, Helen Trump. Her heart and home welcomed family and friends with delicious meals and fun times. She was the best Mom, Mother-in-law, Grandmother and Auntie that any of us could have wished to have. Her example set a high mark for us to strive toward.
Her beloved husband, H Warren Baetzel, in 2004, predeceased Mrs. Baetzel. They had known each other since childhood and had been married 65 years. After Warren's death she moved to Lake Pointe Assisted Living facility in Hartwell, GA to be near family.
She is survived by her son, Dave and Kay Baetzel; granddaughters, Bridget and Scott May and Cindy Baetzel; great grandchildren, Ashleigh and Zack May; niece Kathy and Garry Little, nephew, Rick and Diane Kurtz as well as great nieces and nephews, Katie and Kourtney Kurtz, and Brett and Ryan Little; nephew Bruce Young and several great nieces and nephews from Loren, Wayne and Bruce's families. Mrs. Baetzel was predeceased by her cherished sister June R. Kurtz of Penfield, NY, brother-in-law Richard Kurtz; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janice and Eddie Young; and nephews Wayne and Loren Young.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 4 at 10:30 a.m. in the Beach Chapel of the Goldfinch Funeral Home, Murrells Inlet, SC.Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Conway SC.
