Evelyn Cole Blakely, died January 16, 2008. She was 81. Mrs. Blakely was born in Oconee County, SC and grew up in the Townville, SC area.
She was married to Joe Blakely for 48 years until his death in 1994. They moved to Lavonia in the early 1950's where they raised their two daughters.
Mrs. Blakely had been a resident of Lanier Gardens for the past two years where she enjoyed many wonderful friendships.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, O.O. Cole and sisters, Sue Snipes and Mary F. Hall.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law: Marie & Ron Loftis of Lavonia and Lynne & Mike Dougherty of Athens; Grandsons and wives: Andy & Libby Loftis, Athens and Ken & Rachel Cobb, Watkinsville. Granddaughters and husbands: Natalie & Chris Holland, Carnesville, and Megan & Josh Haynes, Athens. Great-granddaughters: Foster & Alden Loftis of Athens and Joanna & Claire Cobb of Watkinsville. Also surviving are brother: Ray Cole and sisters: Allie Mae Cromer, Betty Bannister, and Joyce Skelton, all of Anderson, SC.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2007 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Richard Bielski officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
